At Studienkolleg Mainz, international applicants prepare for studies at German universities. It offers courses preparing for the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification exam), which serves as proof of higher education eligibility for foreign applicants.

Studienkolleg Mainz offers the following courses:

1. T/TI course (technical, mathematical, and natural science degree programs except biology and biochemistry)

   • Core subjects: German, Mathematics, Physics
   • Additional subjects: Computer Science, Chemistry
   • Suitable for: Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences (except biology and biochemistry)

2. W/WW course (economics degree programs)

   • Core subjects: German, Economics
   • Additional subjects: Mathematics, Social Studies
   • Suitable for: Economics and Social Sciences

3. S/G course (arts, language, social sciences, and humanities degree programs)

   • Core subjects: German, Social Studies
   • Additional subjects: History, Basics of Humanities
   • Suitable for: History, Foreign Languages, Law, Politics, German Studies, etc.

4. M course (medical and biological degree programs)

   • Core subjects: German, Mathematics
   • Additional subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Classes comprise 30 weekly hours and are conducted in person.

The Feststellungsprüfung is taken at the end of the course and consists of written and oral examinations in the respective subjects.

Application Process

1. University Application: Applications are submitted through Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. You must first have your school certificates (and, if applicable, university transcripts) recognized by the university. With the recognition certificate, you can apply for the Studienkolleg. Both steps are processed via JOGUStINe.

• Application Deadlines:
  • Winter semester: by May 15
  • Summer semester: by November 15

Note: The recognition of your certificates may take 6 weeks. Therefore, start your application early.

2. Entrance Examination: If your application is successful, you will be invited to an entrance examination. The subjects tested depend on your chosen course.

• Dates:
  • June (for winter semester)
  • December (for summer semester)

4. Course Start:
   • Summer semester: Mid-February
   • Winter semester: Mid-August

Application Documents

The following documents are required for application via Johannes Gutenberg University:

• Recognition of your school and university certificates from your home country
• Proof of German language skills (at least B2)
• Educational certificates in original language (school leaving certificate from your home country; if applicable, university entrance exam from your home country; if applicable, proof of previous studies and grading system for studies outside Germany)
• Official translation of all relevant documents not in German, English, or French into German
• Certified copy of your passport
• Current CV

Accommodation and Living Expenses

• Semester ticket: Included in the semester fee.
• Living expenses: At least €850 to €1,050/month (incl. rent, health insurance).
