Studienkolleg FU Berlin

At the Studienkolleg of Freie Universität Berlin, international applicants prepare for studies at German universities. It offers courses to prepare for the assessment exam (Feststellungsprüfung), which serves as proof of higher education eligibility for foreign applicants.

The Studienkolleg at FU Berlin offers the following courses:

1. T-Course (Technical, mathematical, and scientific degree programs except biology and biochemistry)

   • Core subjects: Mathematics, Physics
   • Additional subjects: German, Computer Science, Chemistry
   • Suitable for: Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences (except biology and biochemistry)

2. W-Course (Economics degree programs)

   • Core subjects: Mathematics, Economics
   • Additional subjects: German, Economic History, English
   • Suitable for: Economics

3. G-Course (Humanities, law, language, and social science programs, Psychology)

   • Core subjects: German, History
   • Additional subjects: Social Studies, Literature
   • Suitable for: Humanities and Social Sciences, Languages, Cultural Studies, Psychology

4. M-Course (Medical degree programs)

   • Core subjects: Biology, Chemistry
   • Additional subjects: German, Physics, Mathematics
   • Suitable for: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry, Biology

Classes generally take place Monday to Friday between 8 am and 4 pm and comprise approximately 30-32 hours per week. Attendance is mandatory.

The assessment exam is taken at the end of the course and consists of written and oral examinations in the respective subjects.

• Freie Universität Berlin: Responsible for all courses except M-Course
• Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin: Responsible for all courses except M-Course
• Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin: Responsible for M-Course (Medicine)

Application Process

1. University Application:
   • Apply via uni-assist for a degree program at exactly one of the universities associated with the FU Berlin Studienkolleg (FU Berlin, HU Berlin, Charité)
   • Deadline: June 15 for the following winter semester
2. Entrance Exam:
   • Invitation after pre-selection
   • German test (written, 30 minutes) and subject test (depending on course type)
   • Date: August (before semester start)
3. Course Start:
   • September (winter semester)

Required Application Documents

For the application via uni-assist, you need the following documents:

• Online application for admission
• Proof of German language skills (at least B2)
• Educational certificates (school-leaving certificate from your home country; if applicable, university entrance exam certificate from your home country; if applicable, proof of previous studies and grading system for studies outside Germany)
• Passport
• Certified translations of all relevant documents not originally in German
• Proof of payment for the uni-assist processing fee
• Applicants from China, Vietnam, and India: APS certificate

Entrance Exam

The Studienkolleg entrance exam consists of a written German test (30 minutes) and a subject-specific test. The German test assesses your language skills through a cloze test. The subject test varies depending on the desired course type:

• G-Course: Diagram analysis (30 minutes)
• M-, T-, W-Courses: Mathematics (45 minutes)

The entrance exam can be repeated once if not passed.

Important notes:

• If you wish to begin studies in the summer semester, you can only take the assessment exam as an external candidate. You can apply for this until January 15. In this case, you must prepare for the assessment exam independently.
