Studienkolleg Kassel offers the following courses:

  1. T-Course (technical, mathematical and natural science programs)

    • Core subjects: German (12 hrs/week), Mathematics (8 hrs/week), Physics (8 hrs/week)
    • Additional subjects: Chemistry (4 hrs/week), Computer Science (2 hrs/week)
    • Suitable for: Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences
    • FSP (assessment exam) in German, Mathematics, and Physics or Chemistry
  2. W-Course (economics and social science programs)

    • Core subjects: German (12 hrs/week), Mathematics (6 hrs/week), Economics (6 hrs/week)
    • Additional subjects: Business Administration or English (4 hrs/week), Sociology (4 hrs/week), Computer Science (2 hrs/week)
    • Suitable for: Economics and Social Sciences
    • FSP (assessment exam) in German, Mathematics, and Economics

Classes comprise 34 hours per week. Attendance is mandatory.

The assessment exam is taken at the end of the course and consists of written and oral exams in the respective subjects.

Application Process

  1. University application:
    • Apply via uni-assist for a degree program at one of the universities associated with Studienkolleg Kassel (University of Kassel, Fulda University of Applied Sciences)
    • Deadlines:
      • Winter semester: April 30 when applying to Fulda University; as early as possible when applying via University of Kassel.
  2. Entrance exam:
    • Invitation from the university specified in uni-assist
    • German and Mathematics exams
    • Dates:
      • End of June (for winter semester)
    • All Studienkollegs in Hessen conduct entrance exams on the same day.
  3. Course start:
    • Winter semester: September

  • Educational certificates (school leaving certificate from your home country; if available, university entrance exam in your home country; if available, proof of previous studies and grading system for studies outside Germany)

Entrance Exam

The Studienkolleg entrance exam consists of a German test and a Mathematics test. The German test assesses your language skills and is conducted online as a gap-fill test (C-Test).

You may only take the entrance exam for one Studienkolleg in Hessen!

Accommodation and Living Expenses

  • Semester ticket: A student Deutschlandticket is included in the semester fee.
  • Living costs: Min. €950 - €1,100/month (incl. rent, health insurance).

Applications for Studienkolleg Kassel are processed via uni-assist. Apply for your desired degree program at one of the universities associated with the Studienkolleg. Applicants must first pass an entrance exam to be admitted to the Studienkolleg. If applying to the University of Kassel, you should apply as early as possible. For Fulda University of Applied Sciences, the application deadline is April 30.

Notes for External Candidates

You can participate in the assessment exam as an external candidate without attending the Studienkolleg, under the following conditions:
  • You have a conditional admission from the University of Kassel
  • You have German language skills at C1 level
  • You have good grades from your home country
  • You must attend a consultation meeting
  • The head of the Studienkolleg must approve
