At the Hamburg Preparatory College, international university applicants prepare for studies at German universities. It offers courses to prepare for the university qualification assessment examination (Feststellungsprüfung), which serves as proof of higher education entrance qualification for foreign university applicants.

The Hamburg Preparatory College offers the following courses:

1. T-Course (technical, mathematical and natural science degree programs)

   • Core subjects: Mathematics, Physics
   • Additional subjects: German, Computer Science, Chemistry
   • Suitable for: Engineering sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural sciences

2. G-Course (humanities and cultural studies degree programs)

   • Core subjects: German, German Literature
   • Additional subjects: History, English, Social Studies
   • Suitable for: Humanities, Language studies, Cultural studies

3. M-Course (medical, biological, pharmaceutical degree programs)

   • Core subjects: German, Biology
   • Additional subjects: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics
   • Suitable for: Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology

4. W-Course (economics and social science degree programs)

   • Core subjects: German, Mathematics, Computer Science
   • Additional subjects: Economics, English, Social Studies
   • Suitable for: Business Administration, Economics, Law, Social Sciences, Political Science

Attendance is mandatory for all courses. Students must regularly attend classes and complete their homework.

Application Process

Applications are made directly to the preparatory college via the application portal.

Documents for Application

For the application via the Hamburg Preparatory College’s application portal, you need the following documents:

• School leaving certificate (certified copy)
• Certified translation of the school certificate into German or English
• Passport (certified copy) and a passport photo
• Proof of German language skills (min. B2 level, certified copy)
• For refugees: Residence permit
• For applicants from China, India and Vietnam: APS certificate

You must complete the online form in the application portal, print it out, sign it, and send it together with all application documents by post to the preparatory college:

Important note: Your documents must arrive at the preparatory college on time.

Entrance Examination

You do not need to take an entrance examination. Placement is based on your school grades and proof of German language skills.

If you receive admission to the preparatory college, you must enroll at the University of Hamburg using the admission letter. For this, you must pay the semester fee of the University of Hamburg and enroll at the university. You also need health insurance for this purpose.

Accommodation and Living Expenses

• Semester ticket: Included in the semester fee.
• Living expenses: Min. 900 - 1,400 €/month (incl. rent, health insurance).
