Overview

The Studienkolleg at TU Berlin prepares international applicants for the qualification examination required for admission to technical or economics degree programs.

The Studienkolleg offers the following courses:

  1. T-Course (technical, mathematical and natural science programs except Biology and Biochemistry)

    • Core subjects: German, Mathematics
    • Additional subjects: Physics or Chemistry, Computer Science
    • Suitable for: Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences (except Biology/Biochemistry)
  2. W-Course (economics programs)

    • Core subjects: German, Mathematics, Economics
    • Additional subjects: English, Economic History, Cost Accounting
    • Suitable for: Economics and Social Sciences

Instruction comprises 30-32 weekly hours. Attendance is mandatory.

The qualification examination is taken at the end of the course and consists of written and oral exams in the respective subjects.

Application Process

  1. University Application:
    • Apply via uni-assist for a Bachelor program (Mathematics, Natural/Engineering Sciences, Economics or Social Sciences) at TU Berlin.
    • Deadlines:
      • Summer Semester: September 15 - November 30
      • Winter Semester: March 15 - June 30
  2. Admission Test:
    • Invitation from university specified in uni-assist application
    • German test (1 hour, cloze test/C-Test)
    • Mathematics test (1 hour)
    • Dates:
      • August (for Winter Semester)
      • January (for Summer Semester)
  3. Course Start:
    • Summer Semester: Early February
    • Winter Semester: Early September

  • Online application for admission
  • Proof of German language skills (minimum B2)
  • Educational certificates (school-leaving certificate from home country; if applicable, university entrance exam; if applicable, university transcripts and grading system for studies outside Germany)
  • Passport
  • Official translations of all non-German documents into German or English

Admission Test

The Studienkolleg admission test consists of a German proficiency test. This online cloze test evaluates your language skills.

Accommodation and Living Expenses

  • Semester Ticket: Included in semester fee.
  • Living Costs: Min. 1,000-1,500 €/month (incl. rent, health insurance).
  • Dormitories: Managed by Berlin Student Services.

  • For applicants from China, Vietnam, and India: APS certificate. If not digitally signed, the original must be submitted.
  • Application documents will be spot-checked for authenticity. Inconsistencies may lead to rejection.

Notes:

In the online application, under "Questions for the university," you must specify that you are applying for the Studienkolleg or wish to take the external qualification exam. If applying for summer semester and your desired program starts only in winter semester, apply for the 2nd subject semester instead.

Notes for External Candidates

You can take the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification exam) at the TU Berlin Studienkolleg as an external candidate. This requires proof of German language skills at minimum C1 level, plus English at B1 level for the W specialization. The external exam costs 550 €. You must apply on time via uni-assist, then attend a consultation and pass an admission test.
